Moulds Before the actual moulds can be made a model is required. This is a solid version of the finished piece. The model can either be made from clay or plaster. The material used is determined by the form to be achieved – I use plaster for the bowl models and clay for the cradle models. Great precision is required in the making of the models; if they are not exactly right the design outcome will be compromised.

Plaster is turned on the potter's wheel to form a solid version of the bowls.
Making a clay model
Plaster is cast around the models to produce the finished moulds.
